LAWRENCE SHAPIRO, MD
Medical Genetics
Dr. Shapiro received his BS at Tufts University and MD from NYU School of Medicine. He trained at Children's Hospital of Los Angeles and Bellevue Hopsital, NYC in Pediatrics.
He was a US Public Health Service trainee in Human Genetics with Dr. Kurt Hirschhorn at Mount Sinai School of Medicine; Founding Director of the Regional Medical Genetics Center in Valhalla, NY; and Professor of Pediatrics with tenure and Pathology at New York Medical College.
He serves as a member of the Medical Advisory Boards of the NY Tay-Sachs and Allied Diseases Association and Jewish Genetic Disease Consortium (JGDC). Dr. Shapiro was Co-President of GENES and is a member of the New York Mid Atlantic Consortium (NYMAC) Advisory Council.
He has co-authored more than 100 publications, including chapters in books and peer reviewed journals. He is Board certified in Pediatrics and Clinical Genetics and Clinical Cytogenetics.
Dr. Shapiro is a Founding Fellow of the Amrican College of Medical Genetics and a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics. He has been elected to membership in the Society for Pediatric Research and the American Pediatric Society.
His interests include Prenatal Geneetics, Dysmorphology, Mental Retardation, Autism, Disorders of Growth and Development and Cancer Genetics.
Dr. Shapiro has been named to New York's Best Doctors, Westchester's Best Doctors, America's Top Doctors and America's Top Doctors for Cancer.
